I am located in New York and looking to surprise my partner with a luxury weekend getaway that’s really different and exciting (happy to fly but don’t want to spend too much travel time in the air as we only have three days). I am not a roses on the bed kind of gal, I want something sexy, hot and a little dangerous. Any suggestions on where to go and what to do?
Ready To Go
When planning a surprise luxury weekend getaway that’s easy to get to and both sexy and spicy, Mexico is the place to be. No, I am not talking about the frat-boy-on-spring-break Mexico but the fine dining, top spas and luxury resort Mexico. Add in the country’s exquisite beaches and stunning natural wonders and you’ve set the scene for a super hot three day holiday.
Here are my insider travel tips.
To avoid wasting time, book the first direct flight out in the morning. You can make it a little more special with an upgrade. American and Delta airlines both offer business class service which includes complimentary drinks, so order a glass of champagne or a mimosa and let the fun begin at takeoff.
Pre-arrange a private car service through the hotel for a seamless transport from the airport to your room. Request that your car come with cool drinking water and cold, eucalyptus scented hand towels. Include a bottle of Alquimia Reserva de Don Adolfo Extra Añejo Tequila the champagne of Mexico.
1 | What to pack.
Side-step checking in luggage at the airport by packing light. A carry-on (or two) is enough for this getaway. Here are my top picks:
Gorgeous sunnies like these from Fendi.
A fantastic “ready to wear” Frida-inspired travel dress like this one from Gucci.
A sexy, chic swimsuit that leaves very little to the imagination like this one from Agent Provocateur.
There will be no cotton undergarments packed on this trip. You never know when you’ll have a sudden desire, so nothing but satin and lace should be in that bag. Fortunately, you can travel prepared thanks to La Perla.
Finally, you’ll need a seductive scent that makes your neck luscious to nuzzle. With the heat and humidity, you’ll want to keep it light and fresh, but still alluring. I always depend on Miss Dior. She never lets me down.
Remember: NO PASSPORT= NO DEBAUCHERY. So double and triple check that you’ve packed it.
2 | Where to stay.
There are two fabulous 5-star luxury hotels I highly recommend for couples, depending on their personality types.
The Rosewood Mayakoba boasts a lively, see-and-been-seen vibe. Their Agave Azul Sushi and Tequila bar is a must for date night.
If you’re looking for a more intimate getaway, opt for the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. You and your partner can relax nestled in one of their Villas enjoying a private pool and plenty of alone time. The Spa Pool Villa offers a little extra romance.
3 | What to do.
The concierge at your hotel can help you put together activities but for a truly unique and custom itinerary I recommend using Maritur, my go-to local tour company.
Considered the most beautiful cenote in Mexico, Ik Kil is a 130-feet deep swimming hole located 85 feet under the Earth’s surface. It is known to have been used for relaxation and sacred rituals by the ancient Mayans.
Visit the world famous site Chichen Itza where you will see the El Castillo temple, the wall of skulls and the largest known ball court in the Americas.
Located approximately one hour from your hotel, the city of Tulum offers many activities including tours of the Mayan ruins, scuba diving and snorkeling in the Cenote Sac Actún. Enjoy delicious meals, refreshing drinks and go from swimming in the clear blue water to basking in the sun on the beach surrounded by jungle.
Expert Tip: Pair Ik Kil Cenote with Chichen Itza. They are only a ten minute drive from one another which allows you to enjoy a full day of cultural and natural wonder experiences.
4 | Dreamy debauchery.
What’s your passport good for if not a little debauchery?
Spa. Before the sun sets enjoy a relaxing couples massage in the comfort of your own villa. Looking for more? The “Eclipse Sun & Moon Journey” treatment at Rosewood Mayakoba includes a private boat ride from your villa to the spa.
Dining. My favorite dining experience for a romantic evening in the Riviera Maya is offered by Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Aboard the Ixchel (Mood Goddess), a private chef will prepare an exotic menu while you sail through the canals and mangroves of the Mayakoba.
Bed Time. The perfect way to end the day and start the night is the “Intimate Moment” experience by Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Upon arriving at your villa, champagne on ice and your outdoor tub filled with warm bubbly water and floating rose petals will be waiting for you. The candle lit ambiance and bowls of edible delights will have you indulging in one another soon enough.
Expert Tip: Have plenty of champagne waiting so there are no interruptions the rest of the night.
Seem like too much to plan in a short amount time? Don’t stress, sit back, imagine yourself on the beach with a drink in hand and let Ovation Vacations handle the details for you.
Enjoy your weekend,
